
Azuma Foods International, Inc., U.S.A. has voluntarily recalled 545 cases of its Azuma Foods Brand Tako Wasabi – Seasoned Octopus with Wasabi due to the presence of undeclared fish, posing a potential health risk to individuals with fish allergies.
According to the company, the affected product may contain bonito extract, a fish-derived ingredient, that was not declared on the product label. People with a fish allergy or severe sensitivity could experience serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the product.
The recall affects Azuma Foods Brand Tako Wasabi sold in a 3-pack format with a net weight of 5.3 oz. (150g). The product is packaged in a mylar sleeve and bears UPC 745329 90064 7. Distribution occurred between mid-August 2025 and May 2026.
The recalled product was distributed through retail stores in:California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington via retail stores.
The issue was discovered after a supplier replaced a mollusk extract with bonito extract without notifying Azuma Foods, resulting in the omission of the required fish allergen declaration on the label.
No allergic reactions or illnesses related to the recalled product have been reported to date.
Consumers who are allergic to fish are advised not to consume the product and should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Azuma Foods stated that it is taking this action to protect consumers and ensure compliance with food allergen labeling requirements.
