Cucina d’Oro brand Pesto has been recalled in Canada after the product was found to contain cashew that was not properly declared on the label, posing a serious risk to consumers with a tree nut allergy.
The recall affects 212 mL jars of Cucina d’Oro Pesto distributed in Alberta, Ontario and Quebec through the retail sector.
The first affected product has UPC 8 51119 10030 9, with code B.LM 356, a production date of December 22, 2023, and an expiry date of January 3, 2027.
The second affected product has UPC 8 51119 00129 3, with Lot K085, a production date of March 26, 2026, and an expiry date of March 26, 2029.
Cashew is a tree nut and can cause serious allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. Symptoms may include hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting and, in severe cases, anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.
Consumers with a cashew or tree nut allergy should not consume the recalled pesto, even if they have previously eaten the product without experiencing a reaction.
Consumers are advised to not use, sell, serve or distribute the affected products.
Anyone who has purchased the recalled pesto should check the product’s UPC and lot/code information and discard it or return it according to the retailer’s instructions.
