A voluntary food recall has been initiated by TGD Cuts, LLC of Jessup, Maryland, involving fresh cucumbers and a range of products containing cucumbers that may be contaminated with Salmonella. The recall is in response to cucumbers sourced from Bedner Growers Inc., a Florida-based supplier linked to an ongoing multi-state salmonella outbreak.
The announcement was made official by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on June 4, 2025, as part of a growing public health investigation into foodborne illness.
The recall covers a range of tub and tray products including:
Hot and Mild Salsas (6/12 oz. and 5 lb.)
Cucumber Spears and Slices (unpeeled)
Cucumber and Grape Tomato Combinations
These products had use-by dates from May 19, 2025, through May 28, 2025, and were distributed to retail and foodservice locations across Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
According to the company, the products are now beyond their shelf life and are not expected to still be in commerce. However, customers who may have these products stored should discard them immediately or return them for a full refund.
The recalled items contain cucumbers from Bedner Growers Inc., which have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella — a dangerous pathogen that can lead to serious health issues, particularly in children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.
Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with the affected products from TGD Cuts, the recall is being executed out of precaution to ensure consumer safety.
Salmonella is a bacteria that causes foodborne illness, and symptoms may develop within 6 hours to 6 days after exposure. These symptoms can include:
In more severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and lead to arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis. Each year, salmonella is responsible for approximately 1.35 million illnesses, 26,500 hospitalizations, and 420 deaths in the United States, according to the CDC.
