Pieces Of Glass In Popular Spread Triggers Major Recall In B.C.

Two Allo Simonne spreads have been recalled in Canada after authorities found that the products may contain pieces of glass, posing a potential physical food-safety hazard to consumers.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall for Allo Simonne Pistachio Matcha Spread and Almond Cardamom Spread. The affected products were distributed through online channels and in British Columbia and Quebec. The recall is classified as Class 2.

Which products are affected?

The recall applies specifically to the following products and codes:

Allo Simonne Pistachio Matcha Spread
The recalled product is sold in a 220 g package and carries UPC 6 28437 31056 1. The affected code is 12-104-26 MA/BB 10/27.

Allo Simonne Almond Cardamom Spread
The recalled product is also sold in a 220 g package and carries UPC 6 28437 31007 3. The affected code is 7-104-26 MA/BB 10/27.

Why were the spreads recalled?

The products are being recalled because they may contain pieces of glass.

Glass is considered an extraneous physical material and can cause serious injury if accidentally consumed. Potential injuries may include cuts to the mouth or throat and damage to the digestive tract.

Because the contamination may not be visible in every package, consumers should not rely on visual inspection alone to determine whether an affected product is safe.

Where were the recalled products sold?

According to the CFIA, the affected spreads were distributed online and in British Columbia and Quebec.

The recall applies only to the specific products and identifying codes listed by the CFIA. It does not mean that all Allo Simonne products are affected.

What should consumers do?

Consumers who have purchased either of the recalled spreads should not eat or use them.

The CFIA advises that affected products should not be sold, served or distributed. Consumers should check the product name, size, UPC and lot/code information to determine whether their package is included in the recall.

Anyone who has the affected product should follow the appropriate recall instructions and avoid serving it to others.

Recall details

The recalling company is Allo Simonne Inc. The recall was issued on August 25, 2026, and the CFIA published the notification on August 27, 2026 under identification number RA-82538.

The CFIA continues to advise consumers to check official recall notices when purchasing or consuming products that may be affected by food-safety alerts.
