Specific batches of Peklimar Metka Lososiowa and Peklimar Metka Brunszwicka sausages have been recalled after Listeria monocytogenes was detected in the products. Consumers are advised not to eat the affected sausages, and recall notices are being displayed at retail outlets.
The recalled products are Peklimar Metka Lososiowa kiełbasa surowa metka (1,500 g) with batch code 1R808070707 and use-by date 1 August 2026, and Peklimar Metka Brunszwicka kiełbasa surowa metka (1,500 g) with the same batch code (1R808070707) and use-by date 27 July 2026. Both products originate from Poland.
The recall was initiated due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can cause the foodborne illness listeriosis.
In healthy individuals, listeriosis may cause mild flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. However, the infection can become serious in pregnant women, infants, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, potentially leading to severe complications. The incubation period is typically around three weeks, but symptoms can appear anywhere between 3 and 70 days after consuming contaminated food.
Consumers who have purchased the affected sausage batches should not eat them. The products should be returned to the retailer where possible or disposed of safely. Anyone who has consumed the recalled sausages and develops symptoms of listeriosis, particularly those in high-risk groups, should seek medical advice promptly.
Retailers have been instructed to immediately remove the affected batches from sale and display recall notices, while wholesalers and distributors are required to notify customers and recall the implicated products from the supply chain.
