A man was fined $17,500 for bringing illegal meat products into the Singapore.

For unlawfully importing meat products from Malaysia into Singapore, Zheng Jingpin (Sengkang Trading Enterprise) was fined $17,500 by the court.

On June 2, 2022, officers from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) at the Woodlands Checkpoint discovered a vehicle carrying 145 cartons of canned meat that had been declared as processed food. The case was referred to the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) for investigation.

Approximately 1200 kg of canned meat that was illegally imported was discovered by SFA. Sengkang Trading Enterprise has a license to import fish that has been processed, but not meat. 

Food imports into Singapore must adhere to SFA regulations.  illegally imported food products can be hazardous to your health. Only licensed importers are allowed to bring in food, and each shipment must be declared and come with an authorized import permit. 

Those found in possession of meat products with the intent to sell them or those who illegally import meat products from unapproved sources face a fine of up to $50,000 and/or up to two years in prison if found guilty.
