Bournvita Issue: FSSAI continues to take action against food businesses making false claims.

April 24, 2023

India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority takes legal action against food companies that make false claims. This statement comes in the midst of a controversy over Bournvita, which was recently accused of making false health claims.

FSSAI has a zero-tolerance policy for false advertising and routinely monitors and inspects food establishments to make sure that rules governing labeling and food safety are being followed. In order to make sure that food businesses’ claims are accurate and not deceptive, the authority has also issued guidelines.

The Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2018 have been made public by the FSSAI in order to control the advertising and claims made on food products by FBOs. These regulations forbid deceptive claims and advertisements and make them unlawful.

Misleading claims about the health benefits of food products can be dangerous for consumers because they may lead people to make unhealthy choices or rely on products that do not provide the promised benefits. As a result, it is critical for food companies to be open and honest about their labeling and advertising practices.
