Wholesome Pantry Organic Unsweetened Apple Sauce has been recalled in the United States after routine FDA testing found elevated levels of patulin above permitted food safety limits.

The recall was announced by Wakefern Food Corp. on September 23, 2026. The affected applesauce was sold through several supermarket chains, including ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market.

Health Risk

Patulin is a toxin produced by certain molds that can grow on damaged or bruised apples. Elevated exposure to patulin may pose health concerns, which is why limits are established for its presence in food.
