Vogel's bread recalled over concerns of 'small metal pieces'

Goodman Fielder New Zealand Limited has recalled several Vogel’s bread products because the products may contain small metal pieces. The recall has been issued as a precautionary food safety measure due to the potential physical hazard posed by foreign matter.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them.

Products affected

The recall applies to the following Vogel’s products with a Best Before date of 15 AUG:

  • Vogel’s Original Mixed Grain Very Thin — 750g
  • Vogel’s Original Mixed Grain Sandwich — 750g
  • Vogel’s Original Mixed Grain Toast — 750g
  • Vogel’s Dark Rye Toast — 720g
  • Vogel’s Sprouted Whole Grain Toast — 720g
  • Vogel’s Fruit and Spice Extra Thick — 720g

The affected products were sold in soft plastic bags.

Where were the products sold?

The recalled products were sold through supermarkets in the South Island of New Zealand.

According to New Zealand Food Safety, the affected products were not exported, so the recall does not apply to products distributed outside New Zealand.

What products are not affected?

The recall does not affect any other Vogel’s brand products. Consumers should therefore check the product name, pack size and Best Before date to determine whether their product is included in the recall.

What should consumers do?

Consumers who have purchased an affected product should:

  • Do not eat the product.
  • Check the Best Before date and product details to confirm whether it is part of the recall.
  • Return the affected product to the place of purchase for a refund, where applicable.
  • Dispose of the product safely if returning it is not possible.
  • Consumers who believe they have been injured after consuming a product containing a foreign object should seek appropriate medical attention.

Food safety concern

Small metal pieces are considered a physical food safety hazard. If accidentally consumed, metal fragments can potentially cause injury to the mouth, throat or gastrointestinal tract. The recall is intended to prevent consumers from being exposed to potentially contaminated products.

The recall is limited to the specified Vogel’s products carrying a Best Before date of 15 August 2026. Other Vogel’s products are not included in this recall.
