Two alcoholic beverage products sold in Alberta have been recalled because of microbial contamination associated with spoilage, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
The recall affects Bahía Paloma Grapefruit Paloma Agave Spirit Cocktail and Easy Vodka Raspberry Lemonade Alcoholic Beverage. While the contamination is classified as non-harmful, the affected products should not be consumed, sold, served or distributed.
The recall covers the following products:
The products are being recalled due to microbial contamination linked to spoilage. The Canadian food safety authority classifies the issue as non-harmful microbial contamination, meaning the concern is primarily related to product quality and spoilage rather than a known serious health hazard.
However, consumers should not use products that show signs of spoilage or have been identified as part of the recall.
The recalled beverages were distributed in Alberta and may have been supplied to retailers, hotels, restaurants and other institutions.
Consumers and food-service establishments should check their inventory and ensure that the affected products are not sold, served, used or distributed.
Anyone who has an affected product should avoid using it and follow the recall instructions. Businesses, including restaurants and hotels, should also check their stock and remove the recalled beverages from service.
Food safety reminder: Microbial spoilage does not always mean a product contains a pathogen capable of causing illness, but changes associated with spoilage can indicate that a product is no longer suitable for consumption.
