A recall has been issued for Ghiotti brand Chorizo Velita (150 g) in New Zealand after the product was found to carry an incorrect date mark, according to New Zealand Food Safety.
The recall was announced on March 6, 2026, by Granarolo New Zealand Limited, which imported the product from Spain.
The product was labelled with the wrong date marking, which could mislead consumers about its safe consumption period.
The packaging showed Best Before: 21 May 2026
The correct date should be Use By: 21 February 2026
Because “use-by” dates are related to food safety, consuming the product after the correct date could pose a potential health risk.
The recall does not affect any other Ghiotti brand products.
The product was sold at supermarkets and retail stores across New Zealand. Authorities confirmed that the product was not re-exported to other countries.
Consumers are advised to:
Do not consume the recalled product.
Return it to the retailer for a full refund.
Seek medical advice if they have consumed the product and have health concerns.
Food safety officials stated that no illnesses have been reported in connection with the product so far.
