New Zealand Food Safety has announced a recall of Akaroa King Salmon brand Mānuka Cold Smoked Slices and Trim due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious foodborne illness.
The recall applies to specific batches of the products sold in the South Island of New Zealand. No other Akaroa Salmon products are affected.

The recall was initiated due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria infection can cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal illness. In high-risk groups—including pregnant women, elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems—the infection can lead to severe complications.
Retailers selling the affected products are advised to:
Remove the product from sale immediately.
Display the official point-of-sale recall notice in store for one month.
