MaxFoods Pty Ltd has issued an urgent recall of specific batches of its Norlax brand Double Smoked Salmon (300g) after discovering that the product was labelled with incorrect Use By dates.
The affected salmon was sold in 300g plastic packaging and imported from Denmark. The incorrect date markings may give consumers a false impression about the product’s safe shelf life, increasing the risk of consuming it beyond its intended safe period.
While no illnesses have been reported to date, food safety authorities are warning that consuming smoked salmon past its genuine safe date could increase the risk of foodborne illness. The incorrect Use By labels could lead consumers to unknowingly eat the product after it is no longer safe.
According to New Zealand Food Safety, perishable products such as smoked salmon must be consumed within the timeframe indicated by an accurate Use By date to prevent bacterial growth and related health risks.
