Several people were hospitalized after smelling fermented bread left in the bakery fridge overnight at a Woolworths in southeast Melbourne. Emergency services were called to what was initially thought to be a gas leak at a Woolworth’s center in Mentone, Melbourne.
According to a Victoria Fire and Rescue spokesman, one of the workers had left bread rotting in the bakery fridge overnight and became ill the next morning after smelling the food. The cause appears to have been psychosomatic for the other workers. The potential of a gas leak was ruled out by emergency services, including paramedics.
Three women one in her 50s and two in their 20s and a male were taken to Monash Medical Center for observation, according to a Victoria Ambulance spokesperson.
