Health risk from norovirus

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that can cause acute gastroenteritis. Symptoms commonly include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach cramps.

Symptoms generally develop within 24 to 48 hours after exposure, although they can appear as early as 12 hours. Fever, headache, chills, muscle aches and fatigue may also occur.

The illness often begins suddenly, and most people recover within one to two days without long-term health effects. However, vomiting and diarrhea can result in dehydration, which may require medical treatment in severe cases.

People who become ill after consuming a recalled product should contact their healthcare provider.

What consumers should do

Consumers should check their homes for the recalled products and should not consume, serve, use, sell or distribute them.

The recalled products should either be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Consumers who have developed symptoms after consuming one of the affected products should seek medical advice, particularly if symptoms are severe or there are signs of dehydration.
