Salem Spices Recalled Due to Undeclared Allergens | VOCM

Salem Foods has issued a nationwide recall of several ground spices and spice blend products due to the presence of undeclared wheat, sesame, and mustard, posing a serious health risk to consumers with food allergies or gluten-related disorders.

The recall was announced after it was discovered that the affected products may contain wheat, sesame, and mustard, which are not declared on the product labels. Individuals who are allergic or sensitive to these allergens may experience serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. People with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders are also advised not to consume the affected products due to the presence of undeclared gluten.

The recalled products include:

  • Salem Foods Cookies Spices (200 g, UPC: 8 25685 00240 4) – All codes where wheat, sesame, and mustard are not declared on the label.
  • Salem Foods Ground Cardamom (180 g, UPC: 8 25685 00410 1) – All codes where wheat, sesame, and mustard are not declared on the label.
  • Salem Foods Spearmint (120 g, UPC: 8 25685 00420 0) – All codes where wheat, sesame, and mustard are not declared on the label.

Consumers are advised to check their homes for the affected products and not consume them if they are allergic or sensitive to wheat, sesame, or mustard. The products should not be sold, served, used, or distributed. Recalled items should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a refund.

Undeclared allergens are one of the leading causes of food recalls and can pose significant health risks to affected individuals. Consumers experiencing an allergic reaction after consuming any of the recalled products should seek immediate medical attention.
