Moonlight Companies Recalls California-Grown Peaches Over Potential Listeria Contamination

November 3, 2025 United States of America

A Nationwide Fruit Recall: California-Grown Peaches Listed in FDA Notice

Moonlight Companies has announced a nationwide voluntary recall of its California-grown conventional yellow and white peaches due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes. The recall, issued on October 29, 2025, applies to peaches sold under the Moonlight and Kroger brand names. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), no illnesses have been reported so far, but consumers are urged to exercise caution as the affected products were distributed to retail stores across the United States between September 16 and October 29, 2025.

Details of the Recall:
The recall covers both individual peaches bearing PLU stickers and multi-pack peaches sold in clamshells or bags. Consumers should note that this recall does not include peaches labeled “Washington” or “Organic.”
The affected products include several facility and lot codes (P1) and were packed under various UPC codes such as 8 10248 03165 6, 8 98429 00209 1, and 11110 18174.

Brands and product names involved include:

  • Moonlight Yellow Peaches and Moonlight White Peaches (individual or multi-pack)
  • Moonlight “Peppermint” White Peaches (multi-pack)
  • Kroger Yellow Peaches (multi-pack)

The recall was initiated after Listeria monocytogenes was detected in the packing facility environment during routine inspection. While no contamination has yet been confirmed in the finished fruit, the company issued the recall as a precautionary measure to protect public health.

Health Risks and Safety Information:
Listeria monocytogenes is a serious foodborne pathogen that can cause severe or fatal infections, particularly among vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems.
In healthy individuals, infection may cause short-term symptoms including:

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Nausea and diarrhea

However, in pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or premature birth, even if symptoms appear mild. The bacteria can also cause sepsis, meningitis, or neurological complications in severe cases. Symptoms can develop within a few days to several weeks after exposure.

Consumer Advice:
Consumers who have purchased these peaches are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should discard the fruit immediately or return it to the store for a refund. Any surfaces, containers, or utensils that may have come into contact with the recalled peaches should be thoroughly washed and sanitized to avoid cross-contamination.

For any questions, consumers can contact Moonlight Companies’ customer service at 855-215-5017, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

This recall is being conducted with the full knowledge and cooperation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Consumers are encouraged to stay updated through the FDA’s official website for detailed product codes and images related to this recall.
