Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. has voluntarily recalled Starfish Seafood Trio, containing cold-smoked salmon, halibut and trout, over potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on October 9, 2026, after the potential contamination was identified by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
The recalled seafood was distributed across six US states: New York, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina and South Carolina. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the product to date.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a foodborne infection that may lead to severe illness and, in some cases, death. Young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable.
Healthy individuals may experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Invasive listeriosis can cause serious complications, while infection during pregnancy may result in miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery or life-threatening infection in newborns.
Consumers and retailers should check the following product information:
Consumers who have purchased the affected product should not eat it. They are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Retailers and distributors have been instructed to stop selling and distributing the recalled product, identify remaining inventory and notify affected customers as appropriate.
Consumers should also avoid serving the product to others. If the seafood has been opened or stored in the refrigerator, any potentially contaminated product should be handled carefully to prevent cross-contamination.
Anyone who develops symptoms after consuming the recalled product, particularly someone in a high-risk group, should seek medical advice.
Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc., a Brooklyn, New York-based wholesale distributor, initiated the voluntary recall and is cooperating with the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets and the FDA. The company clarified that it did not manufacture the recalled seafood.
