

A popular Korean hot pepper paste has been recalled in parts of Canada because it contains wheat that is not declared on the label, posing a serious risk to people with wheat allergies, gluten-related disorders or celiac disease.
The recall affects Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) sold in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.

The products are being removed from the Canadian marketplace because wheat is present but missing from the product label.
For people with a wheat allergy, consuming the affected product could trigger an allergic reaction that may be serious or potentially life-threatening. Consumers with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders should also avoid the recalled products.
Consumers are advised to check their kitchens for the affected products and not consume, serve, sell or distribute them. The recalled gochujang should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Food safety reminder: Undeclared allergens remain one of the most significant causes of food recalls, particularly when products are imported or sold across different markets where labelling requirements may differ.
