The recall was initiated due to possible contamination with pathogenic E. coli, a harmful bacterium that can cause serious foodborne illness. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, watery or bloody diarrhea, and in severe cases, kidney damage, seizures, strokes, or even death.

Health officials noted that contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled but can still pose a serious health risk.

Consumer Advice

Consumers are advised to check whether they have the recalled products in their homes and avoid consuming them. The affected products should either be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

Anyone who believes they became ill after consuming the recalled microgreens should contact a healthcare provider immediately.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is continuing its food safety investigation, which may lead to additional recalls if more contaminated products are identified.
