Maryland's Clover Hill Dairy recalls ricotta products over listeria risk -  The Banner

Clover Hill Dairy, LLC of Mechanicsville, Maryland, has voluntarily recalled all Soft Ricotta/Requeson Cheese products due to the potential presence of Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections.

The recall was announced after the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) identified a potential public health risk. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), eight cases of listeriosis may be linked to the recalled cheese products.

Affected Products

The recall covers all Clover Hill Dairy Soft Ricotta/Requeson Cheese distributed between May 4, 2026, and May 30, 2026.

The products were sold in:

  • 10-ounce clamshell containers
  • 12-ounce clamshell containers
  • 14-ounce clamshell containers

Consumers can identify affected Clover Hill Dairy products by checking for Plant Number 24-128 on the product label.

In addition, the recalled cheese was distributed in:

  • 2-gallon buckets
  • 5-gallon buckets

Some bulk cheese may have been repackaged and sold under other brand names, including:

  • KESSO
  • QUESOS LA RICURA
  • IZALCO
  • DE MI PUEBLO
  • RIO LINDO

Distribution

The recalled products were distributed through wholesale distributors, retail stores, and direct-to-consumer channels in:

  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • North Carolina
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Washington, D.C.

Company Response

Following notification from the Maryland Department of Health, Clover Hill Dairy has halted the production and distribution of all cheese products while federal and state authorities continue their investigation.

The company stated that it is cooperating fully with the FDA and MDH and has initiated a voluntary recall of all affected Soft Ricotta/Requeson Cheese products.

Consumer Advice

Consumers who have purchased the recalled cheese should not consume it. Instead, they should return the product to the place of purchase in its original packaging for a full refund.
