Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced the recall of Godiva Kunafah & Pistachio Milk Chocolate Bar, manufactured in Saudi Arabia, due to the presence of undeclared egg ingredients on the product label.
The recall follows a voluntary market withdrawal initiated by the manufacturer and announced by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) in May 2026. The product was found to contain egg, an allergen that was not declared in the ingredient list, posing a potential health risk to consumers with egg allergies or sensitivities.
Food allergens are among the leading causes of food recalls globally. Failure to declare egg on the label can expose allergic consumers to serious adverse reactions, ranging from mild symptoms such as skin irritation and digestive discomfort to severe anaphylactic reactions requiring emergency medical attention.
Children and individuals with known egg allergies are considered particularly vulnerable.
Following notification from Saudi authorities, Qatar’s Food Safety Department directed the local supplier to immediately remove the affected products from the market.
Food inspectors were also instructed to verify that the recalled chocolate bars were no longer available for sale across retail outlets in the country.
The Ministry emphasized that the action forms part of its ongoing commitment to protecting public health and ensuring food safety compliance.
Consumers are advised to check production and expiry dates carefully.

This recall highlights the critical importance of accurate allergen labeling in the food industry. Regulatory agencies worldwide classify undeclared allergens as a major food safety hazard because even small amounts of allergenic ingredients can trigger severe reactions in sensitive individuals.
Food manufacturers are expected to maintain robust allergen management programs, including ingredient verification, label review procedures, and quality control checks, to prevent labeling errors and protect consumer health.
The recall of Godiva Kunafah & Pistachio Milk Chocolate Bar serves as a reminder that transparent and accurate food labeling is an essential component of food safety. Consumers with egg allergies should carefully check the affected batch details and avoid consuming the recalled product.
