A nationwide food recall has been issued in New Zealand for Hellers Sweet Chilli Pork Tenders due to the possible presence of hard black plastic pieces in the product.
According to New Zealand Food Safety, supermarkets across the country have been instructed to remove the affected product from shelves after the contamination risk was identified.
The recall was initiated because the affected pork tenders may contain pieces of hard black plastic, which could pose an injury or choking hazard to consumers.
Jenny Bishop stated that consumers should immediately check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled product.
Customers who purchased the affected pork tenders are advised not to consume them. Consumers can return the product to the retailer for a full refund. If returning the item is not possible, authorities recommend disposing of it safely.
At this stage, no injuries or adverse health effects linked to the recalled product have been reported. Officials also confirmed that the product was not exported overseas.
New Zealand Food Safety said it will continue working with Hellers Limited to investigate how the contamination occurred and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Consumers can also view recall notices and packaging photographs on the official New Zealand Food Safety website.
