Canadian food safety authorities have announced a recall of select organic microgreens sold under the Farm Boy and Kyan Culture brands due to possible contamination with pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli).
According to the recall notice issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), the recall was initiated by the company after concerns of contamination with pathogenic E. coli. No illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported so far.
The affected products were distributed in Ontario and Quebec.
Consumers are advised to check product labels, UPCs, and best-before dates to identify affected products:

Kyan Culture Brand
Food contaminated with pathogenic E. coli may not look, smell, or taste spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms of infection may include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (which may be bloody), vomiting, and fever. Symptoms generally appear within a few days of exposure, and most individuals recover within five to seven days.
In severe cases, E. coli infection may lead to a life-threatening complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which can result in kidney failure. Young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of severe illness.
Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products. The products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
Anyone who has consumed the recalled microgreens and develops symptoms of E. coli infection should seek medical attention and inform healthcare providers about possible exposure.
