Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause listeriosis, a potentially serious infection. While healthy individuals may experience only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, the infection poses greater risks for pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. In more severe cases, listeriosis can lead to confusion, loss of balance, convulsions, and even death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also warns that symptoms can include flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, and mental status changes.
As of the latest FDA update, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, the agency has classified the recall as “ongoing,” indicating that the situation is still being closely monitored.
Do not consume any of the listed products with lot numbers between #24351 and #25156. Dispose of the product safely or return it to the place of purchase. Consumers may contact Rich’s Ice Cream or visit their website for additional guidance and support related to the recall.
