Hydr8 Spring Water Recalled Due to Plastic Contamination

July 5, 2025 New Zealand

NZ Drinks Ltd has issued a recall for select batches of its Hydr8 brand Spring Water (600ml x 24 pack) due to the potential presence of blue plastic foreign matter inside the bottles. The affected water packs were sold across selected supermarkets throughout the North Island of New Zealand.

The recall applies to bottles marked with the following Best Before dates:
10 JUN 27, 11 JUN 27, and 16 JUN 27.

Product Details:
This recall affects 24-packs of 600ml plastic bottles of Hydr8 Spring Water. These products have not been exported and the recall is limited to specific locations within New Zealand.

Health Risk Information:
While there have been no reported injuries linked to this recall, the presence of foreign objects such as plastic in bottled water can pose several risks. If ingested, even small fragments of plastic can lead to choking, internal injury, or gastrointestinal discomfort. Consumers may not always notice the contamination immediately, particularly if the fragment is small or partially transparent.

Plastic contamination in food and beverages is a growing concern in food safety globally. Although rare, foreign matter recalls related to bottled beverages can lead to significant consumer distrust and pose a hazard if not addressed quickly.

What Consumers Should Do:

  • Consumers should not drink the affected water and are encouraged to check the date marking on the packaging. Bottles with the specified dates should be returned to the store of purchase for a full refund.
  • Anyone who has consumed the product and is feeling unwell or has concerns should seek medical advice.
