In Slovakia, a brand of infant formula has been recalled due to Cronobacter sakazakii infection. The problem was discovered by authorities, according to the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic. The product had been sold on the Czech market. There have been no reports of connected diseases.

The product was examined in a laboratory recognized by the regional public health authority. It was discovered that Cronobacter sakazakii microbiological regulations were not met. According to the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic, this indicates that the drug should be pulled off the market because it is not safe.

616 of the 1,024 infant formula packs were transported to the Czech Republic, and the remaining packs were sent to Slovakia Nearly 300 packs were intended for the pharmacy supply wholesaler Pharmos.  The remainder was distributed to over 45 small clients.

Cronobacter was discovered earlier this year in another infant formula from a different manufacturer in the Czech Republic, and samples were submitted to Moldova. Corinos House recalled two lot codes of Numil’s first newborn milk formula in June. During Australian testing of infant formula made in Europe, Cronobacter was also discovered. Australian customs officers tested a batch of KetoCal 3:1 at the border and found it to be positive. Danone-owned Nutricia reported that tests conducted both before and after the batch left the manufacturing facility failed to detect Cronobacter.

According to the U.S. FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Abbott Nutrition baby formula was linked to cronobacter infections in at least four babies in the country from 2021 to 2022. Huge recalls of infant formula led to the deaths of two of the babies and a scarcity of formula.
