Over 2,000 Kg Adulterated Dairy Products Seized In Uttar Pradesh Ahead Of Holi

February 27, 2026

Food safety teams in Uttar Pradesh have intensified inspections ahead of the Holi festival, seizing and destroying more than two tonnes of unsafe food products, including paneer and khoya, in multiple districts.

According to updates shared by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), enforcement drives were conducted between February 23 and 25 across Ghaziabad, Barabanki, and Kanpur, targeting high-risk food categories commonly consumed during festive periods.

Major Seizure in Ghaziabad

On February 23, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration (UPFSDA) carried out a significant raid in Ghaziabad:

  • 1,200 kg of suspected adulterated paneer was seized and destroyed on the spot.
  • The consignment was valued at approximately ₹3.84 lakh.
  • Three samples were collected and sent for laboratory analysis to confirm the nature of adulteration and check compliance with food safety standards.

Officials stated that the paneer was found unfit for human consumption during preliminary inspection.

Contaminated Khoya and Other Items Seized

In separate operations across Barabanki and Kanpur:

  • 900 kg of contaminated khoya was seized and disposed of.
  • Additional quantities of milk, spices, and other edible products were also confiscated.
  • Overall, more than 2,000 kg of unsafe food items were destroyed.

Authorities noted that dairy products such as paneer and khoya are particularly vulnerable to adulteration during Holi due to high demand for sweets and festive dishes.

Festive Surveillance Intensified

FSSAI emphasised that surveillance of dairy, sweets, and related products has been strengthened ahead of Holi to prevent the circulation of substandard and adulterated food. Regular inspections, sampling, and on-the-spot destruction are being carried out to safeguard public health.

Laboratory results from the collected samples are awaited. Further action, including prosecution, may follow based on test findings.

Consumers have been advised to:

  • Purchase dairy products from licensed and trusted vendors.
  • Check for proper labelling and hygiene conditions.
  • Report suspicious or substandard food products to local food safety authorities.

With Holi approaching, officials said enforcement drives will continue across the state to ensure safe and hygienic food supplies for the public.
