The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of approximately 2,855 pounds of raw ground beef due to possible contamination with E. coli O26.
The recall involves products produced by Mountain West Food Group, LLC, a Heyburn, Idaho–based establishment. FSIS detected the presence of E. coli O26 during routine testing, prompting the action.
FSIS has classified the recall as Class I, the agency’s most serious category, indicating a reasonable probability that consumption of the product could cause serious adverse health consequences or death.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled ground beef are urged not to consume it. The product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Individuals who may have eaten the recalled beef should monitor for symptoms of E. coli infection, which can appear 10 hours to 10 days after exposure. Symptoms may include diarrhea (often bloody), nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal cramps, and occasionally fever. While no illnesses have been confirmed as of December 27, 2025, symptoms can develop weeks after exposure. Children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of severe illness.
Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the product should seek medical attention.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Jeremy Anderson, CEO, Mountain West Food Group, LLC, at 208-679-3765 or via email at info@mountainwestfoodgroup.com.

FSIS continues to monitor the situation and advises consumers to check refrigerators and freezers for the recalled product.
