Massive Food Recall Issued in the U.S. After Rodent and Bird Feces Found at Distribution Facility

December 28, 2025

A large-scale food recall has been initiated in the United States after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) determined that Gold Star Distribution, Inc. was operating under severely insanitary conditions, including the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where products were stored. As a result, all FDA-regulated products held at the facility are being recalled due to potential contamination. pasted

Reason for the Recall

According to the FDA, inspections revealed widespread pest activity at the facility, creating a significant risk that products may have been contaminated through:

  • Contact with contaminated surfaces
  • Exposure to airborne particles from animal waste
  • Cross-contamination during storage

The affected products include human food, pet food, dietary supplements, drugs, medical devices, and cosmetic products. Products stored under such conditions may carry harmful microorganisms, making them unsafe for use or consumption. pasted

Health Risk

The FDA warned that products contaminated with rodent and bird waste pose serious health risks, particularly due to the potential presence of Salmonella. Salmonella infections can cause fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Vulnerable populations—such as infants, elderly individuals, pregnant persons, and people with weakened immune systems—are at higher risk of severe or fatal illness.

Rodents are also known carriers of Leptospira, the bacteria responsible for leptospirosis, which can infect humans and animals. In addition, contaminated cosmetics may cause skin or eye infections, and contaminated medical devices may increase the risk of device-associated infections. pasted

Product Scope

The recall covers all non-refrigerated and non-frozen FDA-regulated products handled or stored at the Gold Star Distribution facility.
The recall does not apply to frozen or refrigerated products shipped directly to retail stores by manufacturers or distributors.
