Waitrose recalls egg and spinach pot over salmonella fears

Waitrose has announced the recall of its Egg and Spinach Protein Pot (90g) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The affected batches have use-by dates of 31 July 2025 and 01 August 2025, and were available across England. Consumers are urged not to eat the product and return it for a full refund.

What’s the Risk?
Salmonella is a harmful bacterium that can cause food poisoning. Consuming contaminated products may lead to:

  1. Sudden onset of fever, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps
  2. Dehydration, especially in young children, the elderly, or those with weakened immune systems
  3. In rare cases, it may lead to severe illness requiring hospitalisation
  4. The bacteria can also be transmitted person-to-person, so it’s advised to avoid work, school, or childcare settings for at least 48 hours after symptoms subside
