Brooke Holdings Ltd has issued a nationwide recall for two popular snack products under the Summer Harvest brand due to the presence of an undeclared allergenāpeanut. This recall affects specific batches of Bar Mix (400g) and Bhuja Mix Hot (500g), which were distributed to retail outlets and supermarkets throughout New Zealand.
Product Details
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that peanut, a common allergen, was not declared on the ingredient list. While this may not pose a risk to the general population, it could be dangerous or even life-threatening for individuals with peanut allergies. For someone with a severe allergy, even a trace amount of peanut can lead to an allergic reaction, which might include symptoms such as swelling, difficulty breathing, hives, gastrointestinal distress, or in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis requires immediate medical attention and can be fatal if not treated promptly.
Note For Consumers
Consumers who are allergic to peanuts are strongly advised not to consume these products. If someone has already eaten the affected items and is experiencing any signs of an allergic reaction, they should seek medical assistance immediately. However, those without a peanut allergy are not at risk from these products and do not need to be concerned.
Customers who have purchased these specific batches and have a peanut allergy are encouraged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Retailers have also been instructed to display a point-of-sale notice about the recall for one month to inform customers.
