Spring & Mulberry Expands Chocolate Bar Recall Over Salmonella Risk

January 16, 2026 USA

Spring & Mulberry Expands Voluntary Recall of Select Chocolate Bars Due to Possible Salmonella Contamination | FDA

Spring & Mulberry has expanded its voluntary recall of select chocolate bars after possible contamination with Salmonella was identified during routine third-party testing. The updated recall, announced on January 14, 2026, goes beyond the initially affected Mint Leaf flavor and now includes additional flavors produced on the same equipment during the same time period. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration published the notice on January 15, 2026.

Spring & Mulberry stated that no confirmed illnesses have been reported so far. However, the recall was expanded as a precautionary measure because Salmonella contamination can be difficult to detect and may occur intermittently.

Products and distribution
The recall involves multiple flavors of Spring & Mulberry chocolate bars sold nationwide through online channels and select retail partners since September 15, 2025. The affected products can be identified by specific lot codes printed on the back of the packaging and inner flow wrap. Only the lot numbers listed in the recall notice are affected; all other products remain unaffected.

Reason for recall
The action was taken after finished products tested positive for Salmonella during routine testing conducted by the company’s contract manufacturer. In consultation with the FDA, Spring & Mulberry expanded the recall to include additional production lots manufactured using the same equipment.

Health risk information
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious and, in some cases, life-threatening infections. Infants, young children, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe illness. In healthy individuals, infection may lead to gastrointestinal illness characterized by fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody. In rare cases, the infection may spread beyond the intestines into the bloodstream, potentially leading to more severe complications such as infections of blood vessels, the heart, or joints. Anyone experiencing illness after consuming the affected products is advised to seek medical attention promptly.

Consumer advice
Consumers who have purchased the affected chocolate bars should not consume them and are advised to dispose of the products immediately. Refunds or replacements are available by contacting Spring & Mulberry and providing a photo of the lot code.
