Singapore Food Agency recalled Recall of Vegetalk’s Pure Vegetarian Mutton Rendang Curry and Vegetarian Golden Roast Duck

July 7, 2023 Singapore

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has detected gluten in Vegetalk’s Pure Vegetarian Mutton Rendang Curry and Vegetarian Golden Roast Duck, which was not declared on the food packaging labels. 2 As a precautionary measure, SFA has directed the importer, Vegetalk Food Supplies Pte Ltd, to recall the two implicated products and affix the appropriate labeling to declare the presence of gluten. The recalls are ongoing.  Allergens in food could result in allergic reactions in individuals who are sensitive to it. Under Singapore’s Food Regulations, food products containing ingredients that are known to cause hypersensitivity must be declared on food packaging labels to safeguard public health. All ingredients in prepacked food should also be specified on the product label in descending order of the proportions by weight in which they are present. 4 Gluten is a type of protein naturally found in wheat and other grains. Gluten does not pose a food safety issue to consumers at large, except for those who are intolerant of or allergic to gluten. Consumers who have purchased the implicated products, and who are intolerant of or allergic to gluten, should not consume them. Those who are intolerant of or allergic to gluten and have consumed the implicated products should seek medical advice if they have concerns about their health. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for enquiries.
