On 4 September 2025, Canadian authorities announced the recall of various Baklava and Shamyat Pistachio Arabic Ice Cream products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The affected products were sold at Shamyat Cuisine, 4141 Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario, between June 1–30, 2025. This recall is connected to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak currently under investigation.

Affected Products

  1. Shamyat Pistachio Arabic Ice Cream (clerk-served and 1 kg packs)
  2. Pistachio Mabrume
  3. Pistachio Finger Baklawa
  4. Pistachio Flower Baklawa
  5. Pistachio Square Baklawa
  6. Pistachio Faisaliyea
  7. Pistachio Basma

All of the above were clerk-served or sold in-store during June 2025 at Shamyat Cuisine.

Health Risks
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not appear spoiled but can still cause serious illness.

  • Healthy individuals may develop short-term symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, fever, and headache.
  • Vulnerable groups including young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of severe and sometimes life-threatening infections.
  • Long-term complications may arise, such as reactive arthritis, which can persist for months or years.

Consumers who have eaten these products and feel unwell should contact a healthcare professional immediately.

Consumer Guidance

  • Do not consume or serve the recalled products.
  • Check your fridge or freezer for the affected items purchased in June 2025.
  • Safely discard or return them to the place of purchase.
  • If illness develops, seek medical attention and inform your doctor of possible Salmonella exposure.

Distribution
The recalled items were sold only at Shamyat Cuisine, Mississauga, Ontario, and have not been reported as re-distributed elsewhere.
