Health authorities have announced a recall of various pistachios and pistachio-containing products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall, issued on October 25, 2025, affects items sold in Ontario, including CocoaBistro’s The Dubai Bar and bulk-sold Shelled Raw Pistachios from Tara Natural Foods in Kingston. The recall is part of an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak linked to contaminated nuts.

Details of the Recall:

  • CocoaBistro – The Dubai Bar (1 count, ~120 g): Sold between June 19 and August 28, 2025, at CocoaBistro Inc., 840 Development Dr., Kingston, ON.

  • Shelled Raw Pistachios (sold in bulk): Sold between May 12 and June 19, 2025, at Tara Natural Foods, 81 Princess St, Kingston, ON.

Consumers are advised not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled products. Items should be discarded or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Health Risk Information:
Salmonella is a bacterium that causes gastrointestinal illness and can lead to severe complications, especially in vulnerable individuals such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

In healthy people, infection usually develops within 6 to 72 hours after consuming contaminated food and may last four to seven days. Common symptoms include:

  1. Fever and chills
  2. Headache and nausea
  3. Abdominal cramps
  4. Vomiting and diarrhea

In severe cases, dehydration and infection can spread beyond the intestines, requiring hospitalization. Long-term complications may include reactive arthritis, which can persist for months or years after recovery.

What Consumers Should Do:

  • Check your pantry or refrigerator for recalled pistachio products.
  • Do not consume or serve any product identified in the recall notice.
  • If you believe you became ill after eating recalled pistachios, contact your healthcare provider.
  • Dispose of affected products safely to prevent cross-contamination.

Authorities continue to investigate the source of contamination and are working to determine if additional products may be affected. Consumers can visit the Food Safety Investigation page for updates and related recall alerts.
