Dubai pistachio chocolate spread linked to salmonella outbreak: What you need to know | - Times of India
Health authorities have announced a nationwide recall of several pistachio-containing products due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The recall is linked to an ongoing foodborne illness investigation, raising concerns for consumer safety.

Recalled Products
The affected products include chocolate-covered pistachio confectioneries from Allo Simonne and clerk-served Baklava from Maison Si Bon Inc. Specific lots and dates are impacted:

  1. Allo Simonne Sour Cherries & Pistachios covered in chocolate, rose petals (130 g)
  2. Allo Simonne Dark Chocolate Easter Eggs with Pistachios & Raspberries (150 g)
  3. Clerk-served “Baklava Losange” and “Baklava Fleur” sold between August 9–16, 2025 in Laval, QC

Consumers who purchased these products online or in stores nationwide are urged not to consume them.

Health Risks of Salmonella
Salmonella infection poses a serious risk to vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. While contaminated food may appear normal, ingestion can lead to severe illness.

Common symptoms include:

  • Fever, nausea, vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps and diarrhea
  • Headache and general malaise

In severe cases, long-term complications such as reactive arthritis or bloodstream infections can occur, which may be life-threatening without treatment.

What You Should Do

  • Check your pantry and refrigerators for the recalled products
  • Do not consume, sell, serve, or distribute them
  • Safely discard or return the items to the point of purchase
  • If you suspect illness after consuming these products, contact your healthcare provider immediately

This recall highlights the importance of strict vigilance in food safety, particularly in ready-to-eat products that combine nuts with confectionery.
