Multiple Salami and Cacciatore Products Recalled Due to Salmonella Risk

July 21, 2025 Canada

More Than 65 Deli Meat Products Recalled Over Potential Salmonella Contamination: Health Canada | The Epoch Times
A major recall has been issued across Canada involving various brands of salami and cacciatore products due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall, announced on July 18, 2025, affects products distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. Consumers are urged to check their fridges and avoid consumption of the listed products, which are linked to a risk of serious foodborne illness.

Details of the Recall:
The recall affects salami and cacciatore items from the following brands:

  • Bona: Calabrese Salami Hot, Hot Sopressata, and Soppressata Sweet

  • Cosmo’s Smoked Meats: Calabrese Salami Hot, Sopressata Sweet, Sausage Cacciatore Sweet and Hot

  • Imperial Meats: Calabrese Salami Hot, Sausage Cacciatore Sweet and Hot

These products were sold in variable sizes, and several do not list UPCs, but are identified by specific production codes such as 5050 225, 5042 236, and others in ranges starting from 5020 to 5059. Consumers should refer to official listings or consult retailers if uncertain about the product codes.

Why This Matters:
Salmonella is a harmful bacterium that can lead to foodborne illness. While the contaminated food might look, smell, or taste normal, it can still cause serious health effects.

Symptoms typically appear 6 to 72 hours after consumption and may include:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Diarrhea, which may be bloody

In most healthy individuals, the illness lasts 4 to 7 days. However, in vulnerable groups such as young children, elderly adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems, Salmonella infection can lead to severe complications like dehydration, bloodstream infections, or even long-term health issues like reactive arthritis.

What You Should Do:
Do not eat, serve, or sell the affected products. Discard them safely or return them to the place of purchase. If you suspect illness following consumption, contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Additional Info:
This recall is part of an ongoing food safety investigation. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and may update the list as needed. Consumers can sign up for email alerts to stay informed or report any food safety concerns to the national helpline or food inspection agency.
