Nothing Naughty 2021 Limited has recalled one batch of its Nothing Naughty brand Premium Pea Protein – Natural Caramel (1kg) following the discovery that the product contains undeclared milk. The issue arose when Premium Whey Protein was accidentally packaged and labelled as Premium Pea Protein. The recall was confirmed on 4 November 2025 by New Zealand Food Safety.

The affected product is marked with Best Before: 07 APR 27 and is sold in a 1kg glass jar. It has been distributed through selected retailers, health stores, and pharmacies across New Zealand. No other Nothing Naughty products are affected by this recall.

Consumers are urged to check the date marking on the bottom of the jar. People with milk allergies or lactose intolerance are advised not to consume the product and return it to the retailer for a full refund. Those without milk sensitivities are not at risk and can safely disregard the recall.

Health Risks Explained

Consuming milk-containing products can cause a range of reactions in individuals with milk allergies or intolerance. Milk allergy—an immune response to milk proteins—can trigger symptoms within minutes to hours. These may include hives, swelling of the lips or face, vomiting, wheezing, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening reaction that requires urgent medical attention.

Milk intolerance, often due to lactose malabsorption, can cause bloating, gas, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. While not life-threatening, it can lead to significant discomfort. Because the mislabelled product does not warn consumers about the presence of milk, individuals with sensitivities could unknowingly be exposed.

New Zealand Food Safety emphasizes that allergen mislabelling is one of the leading causes of food recalls because it poses an immediate danger to vulnerable consumers.

What Consumers Should Do

• Check the Best Before date (07 APR 27) on the bottom of the jar.
• Do not consume the product if you have a milk allergy or intolerance.
• Return the affected jar to the retailer for a full refund.
