New Zealand Food Safety has issued an updated recall for several frozen vegetable products under the Deep brand, imported from India and sold nationwide in ethnic supermarkets and online through Vimms Enterprise Limited. The recall now includes Deep brand Green Garlic (340 g) with batch number IN25151K and use by date 29 November 2026, alongside previously recalled Deep brand Sprouted Mat, Sprouted Moong, and Surti Undhiu Mix due to possible Salmonella contamination.
Recalled Product Details
Reason for Recall
Testing identified the possible presence of Salmonella in these products. As Salmonella can survive in frozen foods and may spread if not cooked thoroughly, this recall was extended to protect consumers.
Health Risks
Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) can cause significant illness. Symptoms usually appear within 6 to 72 hours and include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. While most healthy people recover without treatment, the infection can be severe in young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. In some cases, the infection may spread beyond the intestines, leading to serious complications such as septicemia or reactive arthritis.
