Champion Foods Recalls Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread Over Potential Salmonella Risk

June 2, 2026 USA

Cheese bread sold at Walmart, Costco and other stores recalled because of Salmonella risk | Food Safety News

Champion Foods LLC, based in New Boston, Michigan, has voluntarily recalled certain batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread due to the potential presence of Salmonella, according to a recall notice published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall was initiated after a separate recall of milk powder by California Dairies, Inc. raised concerns about possible Salmonella contamination. The affected milk powder was supplied to a third-party manufacturer that produces a seasoning blend used in the cheese sauce component of the recalled products.

Salmonella infections can cause symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of developing severe illness. In rare cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream and lead to serious complications, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

Champion Foods stated that routine testing conducted by the seasoning blend manufacturer before production showed negative results for Salmonella. However, the company is proceeding with the recall as a precautionary measure to protect consumer health.

To date, neither Champion Foods nor its suppliers have received any reports of illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled products.
