The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has announced the recall of multiple chicken products sold under the Manor Farm, Western Brand, Lidl, and Inishella brands due to the possible presence of Salmonella. The affected products were distributed through major retailers across Ireland, including Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, SuperValu, Dunnes Stores, and Centra.
According to the FSAI, the recall impacts various batches of Manor Farm chicken products, which were sold under retailer own-brand labels, as well as Western Brand chicken products marketed under the Lidl and Inishella brand names.
Additional affected products include:
The implicated products carry use-by dates between 12 and 13 April. Although these dates have passed, the FSAI noted that the products may still be present in consumers’ homes because they are suitable for freezing. Consumers have therefore been urged to immediately check their freezers and avoid consuming any affected items.
Separately, the FSAI also recalled specific batches of Western Brand Sage & Onion Cook in Bag Whole Chicken due to possible Salmonella contamination. These products were sold through Aldi and Tesco with use-by dates of 13 and 14 May.
The FSAI stated that symptoms of salmonellosis generally develop within 12 to 36 hours after infection, although onset can range from 6 to 72 hours. Common symptoms include:
Illness typically lasts four to seven days, though severe cases may require hospitalization. Elderly individuals, infants, and immunocompromised people are considered at greater risk of serious illness.
Retailers have been instructed to display recall notices at point-of-sale locations, while consumers are advised not to consume the implicated products and to dispose of them safely or return them to the place of purchase.
