Meijer, a major Midwest-based retail chain, has issued a voluntary recall of specific packages of Frederik’s by Meijer Dark Chocolate Almonds after discovering the presence of undeclared cashews in the product. This mislabeling poses a potentially serious or life-threatening health risk for individuals with cashew allergies. The recall applies to products distributed across six states in the United States.
The impacted product was packaged and sold as dark chocolate-covered almonds, but may instead contain dark chocolate-covered cashews. The presence of cashews is not listed on the ingredient label, which may trigger severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
12 oz. black stand-up pouches with the sell-by dates of May 7, 2026, and May 28, 2026. These products may contain cashews despite being labeled as dark chocolate almonds.
8-count multipack boxes, each containing 1.5 oz. pouches, with a sell-by date of May 5, 2026. These packages may also be affected by the same mislabeling issue.
These items were sold at Meijer stores across the six listed states. Consumers are advised to check the UPC codes and sell-by dates to determine whether their purchase is part of the recall.
The issue was identified after a customer notified Meijer of the potential mix-up. While no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported as of the announcement date, Meijer issued the recall out of an abundance of caution and to protect consumers with nut allergies.
Customers who purchased any of the affected items and who have an allergy or sensitivity to cashews are advised to:
Discontinue use immediately
Return the product to any Meijer customer service desk for a full refund
For questions related to the recall, consumers may contact Meijer at 800-543-3704, available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. EDT. Those with health concerns are encouraged to consult their primary care physician.
